Graduating from Sierra University with an M.A. in psychology in 1989, Sharon Magar, LMFT, brings seasoned and passionate experience to LAT Intensive Outpatient Program, with a specialty focus on cognitive behavioral psychology, mindfulness, substance abuse, treatment of co-occurring mental health disorders, bariatric psychology and clinical direction. Serving in a variety of roles including Primary Therapist, Assessment Specialist and Clinical Director, Sharon is intimately familiar with the path of substance abuse recovery and mental health wellness. In private practice since 1994, Sharon has also provided extensive support to intensive outpatient programming to meet the mandates of JHACO and DHCS for licensing readiness and certification. With extensive experience operating Intensive Outpatient Programs in Los Angeles, Hollywood and Culver City, serving in roles from Primary Therapist, Assessment Specialist and Clinical Director, Sharon has been responsible for a census of up to 130 adult individuals, running up to 3 separate tracks at the same time (morning, afternoon & evening programming).
Bringing the life lessons learned through her own recovery process, with over 6 years of sobriety and being of daily service to other individuals seeking wholeness and freedom from substance dependency, Sharon has also served as a Bariatric Therapist Specialist, helping over 2000 bariatric patients with the painful struggles of obesity, the impact of rapid weight loss on relationships, jobs, family, friendships, and the emotional triggers that can lead to weight regain after WLS. She is a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and ASMBS – American Society for Metabolic Surgery.
