The Family Services Program

Family members often become the main support system when a loved one is suffering from a mental illness. It can be difficult to coordinate daily activities or appointments, and extremely frustrating when lack of motivation and/or cooperation are issues. As the Team develops the rehabilitation plan, it is equally important for families to shift roles and redefine their relationships, helping to stabilize the family unit.

The Family Services Program provides specialized training and support designed to teach family members communication and problem solving skills that are consistent with those of the rehabilitation team. The family learns strategies and techniques essential to successful treatment and the accomplishment of reasonable goals and expectations.   If additional support is necessary, consultation is always available by phone. Families who are out of the area may participate in the program through scheduled phone appointments.

While we understand it is not always possible for each family member to participate in every training session, the more consistent and communicative the family is, the more successful the rehabilitation will be for everyone involved.

I look forward to working the with families of our clients, and would be happy to consult with family members not affiliated with LAT who have questions about family training, or are experiencing a difficult situation and are in need of some guidance.

The Life Adjustment Team maintains a vast national resource network, and offers free consultation and referral services by phone during regular office hours. We're here to help.
